Letu Man with His Black Teeth
Letu Chin Traditional Attires & Tunics, Accessories
Letu Man & Woman in Traditional Attires
The Letu Chin people have two different traditional cultural attire as below. The Letu Chin people have a very great distinction in wearing the clothes. Males would never wear the females' clothes.
A. Men's Wears.
-
Khrangim(also Phangim)
Letu male dress is called "khrangim of phangim." In this textile cloth, the colors are red, and some 5% are black. The ingredients are beads, cowries, or pearls threaded along with the sheet of the tunic.
2. Yënlupong Head Gear/wear.
Yënlupong is a must-have accessory for every Letu male, whether it is a festival or just having a small cultural event. This is only red color with two white lines around 7%.
3. Hom
This is also a headwear for men, but this is a slightly rare thing; it also means that the one who can wear this is a somewhat more significant person than the other. And this accessory is used only when a great event or cultural festival is held among the Letu Chin people.
4. Yën Jikhi.
Letu man also uses the traditional bag, which is called, ÿën jikhi." This is small, but it is also regarded as a must-have traditional thing. Most of the bag is red, with white and sometimes black accents.
B. Women's Wears
-
Khranghën(also Phanghën)
This is the female traditional attire or a tunic. The ingredients are cowrie shells/cowrie buttons. The textile colors are 65% red and 45% black.
3. Hodëp & Ponpya, Kikki
These are two sheets or parts of the skirt attached to a girl or a woman when she wears it. Hodëp is traditionally waved, which is mostly black, while ponpya is a machined waved burmese textile; either red or any color can be used. Kikki is a belt for tying hodëp and ponpya.
4. Hën Nhawtheng.
These are the earrings for a girl or woman, which is made of silver.
